The University of South Alabama Regional Autism Network (USARAN) and the Alfred G. Adams, Jr. Optimist Club of Perry County are offering a free in-person workshop for families and professionals on navigating services for adults with disabilities.

The workshop will be offered in Marion at the Albert Turner, Sr. Courthouse Annex on Thursday, Sept. 11 from 6-8 p.m. It is located at 200 Pickens St. in Marion.

Andrea Mixson, senior staff attorney, and Tammy Blue, case advocate, with the Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program will be available to answer questions about services available for adults with disabilities, including Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) and long-term Medicaid supports for people with severe medical and intellectual disabilities. Information about taking advantage of Social Security Work Incentives, how to gain access to these services and what to do if you are denied will also be shared.

“The Regional Autism Network serves the entire state of Alabama, including our most rural areas,” Michelle McDaniel, USARAN director said. “We want to ensure that all individuals with autism and their loved ones feel confident in knowing where and how to access the resources available to them.”
