At the Tuesday night, June 24 meeting of Greensboro City Council, Parks and Recreation Board Chairman Susie Harris informed the Council she will not be seeking reappointment to the Chairman position and asked that the City Council appoint Shane Aultman to the position when her current term expires in March of next year. Councilmember Bragg made a motion to appoint Aultman at that time, as per Harris’s request. Councilmember Shepherd seconded the motion, and it was unanimously carried.

The Parks and Recreation Board also asked the Council’s approval to allot $1,000 to the Greensboro Community Youth Baseball League. Councilmember Curtis motioned to allow the allotment. Bragg seconded the motion, and it was unanimously carried.

Shepherd said she had been getting numerous complaints in District 2 about loud music, unruly behavior, and possible drug dealing. “I would recommend the police go out there and give them a ticket,” said Shepherd. Police Chief Lewis said, “I understand everyone’s concerns. I’ll talk to the landowners. When it comes to the law, I’m going to abide by it.”

Councilmember Lewis asked that the public “please be careful and watch out for snakes.” There have been numerous sightings of venomous snakes and one little girl in the Baptist Hill area was bitten by a copperhead Monday night and had to be put in ICU, according to Lewis.

Christy Cannon, a resident of District 1, said, “The city needs to get something done about code enforcement. These houses look a mess. These property owners need to get their houses fixed, because this is ridiculous.”
