Jimmie Allen Carter, age 88, of Greensboro, Alabama, passed away on May 25 at Bibb County Nursing Home in Centreville, Alabama.
He was born on March 14, 1937 in Bibb County to George and Elsie Carter. He was survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Colburn Carter; children Joey Carter (SaLeta) and Vicky Carter; grandchildren Mitch Galloway (Anna), Lacey Flowers (Ryan), Jake Carter (Georgia), Hope Galloway, and Jeremy Carter (Shelby); great grandchildren Jack Galloway, Charleigh, Carter, and Clyde Flowers, Zavion Maddix and Jason Carter, Braxytn Carter and Cameron Edwards; siblings Louise Reach and Jeanette Crocker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elsie Carter; his daughter, Patty Galloway; and siblings George Carter Jr., Frank Carter, David Carter, Ellis Carter, Lawrence Carter, Dewayne Hobson, Elouise Moore, Clarence Moore, and Robert Moore.
Jimmie proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed in Whittier, Alaska. He also found great joy in the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, and tending to his gardens. He took special pride in sharing the fruits and vegetables he grew with his co-workers and neighbors. For most of his life, he was a devoted employee of Phifer Incorporated, where he worked faithfully for 60 years. He was deeply proud of his six decades of service at Phifer and carried that pride with him wherever he went.
Pallbearers were Daryl Fondren, David Fondren, Ken Carter, Vinnie Harris, Austin Harris, and Danny Hale.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Lata Patil, Kim Watkins, and the entire staff of Bibb County Nursing Home; the past and present employees of Phifer Incorporated, Beverly Phifer, Jim and Karen Brooks, Reese Brooks, and Brad and Susan Cork; special family members Lou and Floyd Marchant, Terri Jones, Daryl Fondren, Rita Dunn, and David Fondren, Dave Hobson, Allen Hobson and Nancy Hobson; special friends Toby Watkins, Les Averette, Keith Averette, Thomas Averette, Gary Donner, and David Pierce; and members of the Lake Payne Church of God.
Funeral services were held at Lake Payne Church of God on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Lake Payne Church of God, with visitation beginning at 11 am with funeral service beginning at 12 pm. Pastors Arthur Thomas and Bryan LaGrone officiated. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
