Mr. Mark Knight, Administrator, would like to recognize the academic award recipients and the candidates for graduation for the Southern Academy Class of 2025.
Valedictorian of the Class of 2025 is John Hamner Lewis. Hamner is the son of Tripp and Eliza Lewis, brother of Lida Lewis (SA class of 2022), and grandson of Nickie and Winnie Cobbs of Greensboro. Born in Mobile, AL in 2006, Hamner and his family moved to Greensboro just prior to entering his first-grade year at Southern Academy, where he has attended ever since.
In addition to his education, Hamner has enjoyed participating in various sports and extra-curricular activities such as football, basketball, golf, pickleball, fishing and hunting and has developed a love for tying his own flies for fly fishing. Last summer, Hamner attended Boys State, where he held several office positions. He served as class vice president and SGA treasurer at Southern Academy for the past two years and is a member of the National Honor Society, EYC, and Spanish Club. Throughout his senior year, Hamner has worked in the afternoons for Barnette Furniture and as a tutor for Project Horseshoe Farms. He has also volunteered for various nonprofit organizations in the community.
After graduation, Hamner plans to attend the University of Alabama to pursue a major in construction engineering and a minor in business management.
Salutatorian of the Class of 2025 is Margaret (Marti) Claire Plummer. Marti is the daughter of Barry and Ashley Plummer of Marion, Alabama. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club and Marion Methodist Church. Marti has earned numerous academic honors including “A” honor roll, highest average in various subjects and now salutatorian of her senior class. During her high school years, she was a member of the volleyball team and a cheerleader. Marti has been employed by College City Drugs for the past three years. She plans to attend Wallace Community College in Selma to obtain her associate degree and then transfer to a four-year college to complete her bachelor’s degree.
Candidates for Graduation are: Makenzie Jade Agee, Mary Julia Barton, Nicholas Lawrence Bott, Montana Leigh Christmas, Landon Brett Cole, Emma Kay Collins, Caroline Reid Cooper, Margaret Lewis Cooper, Ellen Marie Eddins, William Allen Edwards, Marianna Layne Etheridge, Brittney Faith Flowers, Robert Drake Gilbert, Dixon Thomas Green, Feebe Lynn Hodge, Jeremiah Macon Houston, Veronica Reese Kehrer, Mary Annsleigh Kirk, Laura Rushing Kyser, John Hamner Lewis, Sawyer Ryland Lindsey, Olivia Paige Mosley, Anna Camille Nichols, Sarah-Elizabeth Barnes Parten, Margaret Claire Plummer, Marie Cassidy Plummer, John Morgan Rinehart, Caden Lane Skelton, Kennedy Taylor Thomas, Evie Leigh Walton.
The school colors are blue and white, and the mascot is the cougar. The school motto is Pro Christo et Republica (For Christ and Republic), and the magnolia is the school flower.
The class officers are as follows: President – Laura Kyser, Vice President – Hamner Lewis, Secretary – Reid Cooper, Chaplain – Margaret Cooper. The Class of 2025’s flower is the white rose. Their class colors are pearl and navy. Their class motto is “What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us” Ralph Waldo Emerson. Graduation will be May 15th at 6:30 PM at the school.
