Celebrating National Women Physician Day at Hale County Hospital

On February 3, 2025, we proudly celebrate National Women Physicians Day, honoring the contributions of female doctors across the country. This day marks the birthday of Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman in the United States to receive a medical degree in 1849. Her groundbreaking achievement paved the way for generations of women in medicine, including the outstanding female physicians we are privileged to have at Hale County Hospital and our affiliated clinics.

At Hale County Hospital, we recognize and appreciate the dedication, expertise, and compassionate care provided by our team of female physicians. These women play an integral role in improving healthcare access and outcomes for our patients, and today, we highlight their impact on our hospital and the surrounding communities.

Dr. Donna Davis – Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

Dr. Davis has been serving patients at our Greensboro and Moundville Clinics for two years. As one of the few child and adolescent psychiatrists in West Alabama, she plays a vital role in providing mental health care to the region’s youth. Her dedication to supporting the well-being of children and teenagers helps them to develop the confidence and resilience necessary to grow into healthy, well-adjusted adults. Hale County Hospital is very proud and grateful to have Dr. Davis as part of our team.

Dr. Crystal Skinner – Family Medicine

For the past three years, Dr. Skinner has been an essential part of the Hale County Hospital team, providing compassionate and high-quality care in both the Inpatient Wing and Emergency Department. She is dedicated to serving her patients and thrives on the challenges of family medicine, from managing chronic conditions to addressing acute concerns.

Dr. Angela Smelley – Family Medicine

Dr. Smelley is a valued physician at our Moundville Clinic. Her expertise in family medicine allows her to treat patients of all ages, helping to manage chronic conditions, provide preventive care, and support overall wellness.
