A Moundville man, Korey Lashawn Williams, 39, was arrested on Nov. 26 on charges of firearm possession by a person forbidden under Alabama law. Authorities allege Williams was in possession of a firearm despite a prior conviction that prohibits him from owning or controlling such weapons.

According to court documents, Williams was stopped on Nov. 25. During the stop, a loaded Rossi .243 Winchester rifle was discovered in the back seat of the vehicle he was driving. Law enforcement asserts that Williams’s previous conviction for a misdemeanor domestic violence offense rendered him ineligible to possess firearms under Alabama law, specifically Section 13A-11- 72(A) of the Code of Alabama.

The charge against Williams is categorized as a Class C felony. Under Alabama law, individuals convicted of crimes of violence, misdemeanor domestic violence offenses, or those subject to valid domestic violence protection orders are prohibited from firearm possession.
