The Greensboro Christmas Parade and related festivities are set to bring holiday cheer to downtown Greensboro on Friday and Saturday, December 13-14, 2024. This year’s theme, “A Christmas Story,” promises a weekend filled with music, entertainment, and community spirit.
The celebration kicks off on Friday, December 13, at 6 p.m. with a Christmas Community Choir Concert, followed by the Christmas Tree Lighting and a Fireworks Show. Families can enjoy free hot dogs, candy, beverages, and photos with Santa. The event will take place on Main Street, between Whelan and Beacon Streets.
The Annual Greensboro Christmas Parade will take place on Saturday, December 14, beginning at 2:30 p.m. This year’s Grand Marshals are Salaam Green, a native of Greensboro and Birmingham’s inaugural Poet Laureate, and Rick Crawford. Green, also the 2024 Literary Arts Awardee, is a celebrated poet and founder of Literary Healing Arts. She is widely recognized for her work as a racial healer and her upcoming full-length poetry collection with Pulley Press.
The parade will begin sign-in at 1:00 p.m., with the lineup starting at 1:30 p.m. The route starts on Armory Street, continues left onto College Street, right onto First Street, left onto Main Street, and concludes on Tuscaloosa Street at South Street.
The day’s activities will include music, food, and entertainment, with vendors and crafters lining Main Street. Participants are encouraged to join the parade, with decorated antique cars, golf carts, ATVs, motorcycles, and horses all welcome. The parade is expected to feature five marching bands.
“This is a fun-filled day for the entire community, and a reminder that Jesus is the reason for the season,” said the Greensboro Christmas Parade Committee. For more information, contact Annetta Constant at (334) 507-1076 or Ken Lewis at (205) 764-3198.
