The Hale County Democratic Executive Committee has announced that qualifying for the 2026 Democratic primary will open Monday, January 5, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., and close Friday, January 23, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
The dates are coordinated with the Alabama Democratic Party and follow state election law.
Candidates seeking a county office on the Democratic primary ballot must qualify with Hale County Democratic Executive Committee Chair Gay Nell Singleton. County ballot positions include sheriff, coroner, revenue commissioner, county commissioners, and members of the Hale County Board of Education.
Candidates seeking a four-year term on the Hale County Democratic Executive Committee will also qualify locally. Candidate qualifying information kits for county offices are available by email at gay.singleton@yahoo.com.
All other offices, including state senate, state house district seats, and positions on the State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC), must qualify through the state party’s online portal at aldemocrats.org. The state party’s qualifying fee is 2 percent of the annual salary of the office sought. SDEC candidates may also be required to pay a $50 qualifying fee.
The Democratic Primary Election will be held May 19, 2026.
“We are encouraged by the positive momentum surrounding the upcoming election and urge community members to actively engage, participate, and contribute to meaningful progress within our communities,” Singleton said.
