Former Hale County coach to be inducted to Shelton HOF

Shelton State Athletics announced on June 4, 2025, that Lori Westbrook Wyatt Edwards will be inducted into their Hall of Fame. Lori had a dominant record as a softball pitcher at Marengo Academy, going 68 consecutive games without a loss between 1980 and 1982. Her team won three straight AISA state championships in these years and Lori herself was named MVP in ’81 and ’82.

Edwards went on to pitch at Shelton State, where she notched a 48-13 record, played on the Alabama Junior College All-Region Team, and won the Outstanding Pitching Award in 1984. Edwards earned a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education at the University of Alabama, and a Master’s Degree from Livingston University. While at UA, Edwards played on the 1987 Alabama ASA Class A State Championship team.

Edwards taught at Maxwell Elementary School for 17 years before moving to Moundville Elementary School in 2005, where she taught multiple grade levels until moving to Hale County Middle School, where she taught 6th grade until 2018.

Edwards served as head softball coach at Hale County High School from 2005 to 2018. Her teams won four AHSAA State Championships during her tenure. Edwards compiled a coaching record of 284-195- 2. She was awarded AHSAA Coach of the Year in 2014(2A) and 2015(3A), and was named Alabama’s State Softball Coach of the Year by the National Federation of High School Coaches Association in 2014. She was inducted into the Marengo County Sports Hall of Fame in 2012, the West Alabama Softball Hall of Fame in 2015, and the Alabama Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame in 2021.

The 2025 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the Martin Campus Atrium.
