The City of Greensboro has officially announced Tuesday, August 26, 2025, as the date for its upcoming municipal election, joining cities across the state in preparing to elect new leadership. Voters will head to the polls to elect a mayor and one city council member from each of the city’s five districts.
The Greensboro election will be held at the Greensboro Recreational Center (formerly Old National Guard), located at 515 Green Street. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Central Daylight Time.
All candidates must be residents of the municipality for at least 90 days prior to the election. Registered and qualified voters who have lived within Greensboro’s corporate limits for at least 30 days are eligible to vote in the race for their district and mayor.
In the event of a runoff, voters will return to the polls on Tuesday, October 6.
Candidates wishing to run for office must file a statement of candidacy and other required paperwork with the Greensboro City Clerk. The qualifying window opens at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, and closes at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24. Statements may be submitted during business hours at City Hall, 1101 Main Street.
Other municipalities across Hale, Perry, Marengo, and surrounding counties are expected to hold elections the same day, in accordance with state law. Candidate qualifying periods and election notices are expected to be published over the coming weeks. The races will determine the leadership of many small towns and cities in the Black Belt for the next four years.
In recent election cycles, municipal elections in the region have drawn both seasoned incumbents and fresh challengers, often with deep roots in the communities they seek to serve. While some races have gone uncontested in years past, increased interest in local governance, public safety, and infrastructure concerns may drive greater turnout and competition this year.
Voters are encouraged to check their registration status and district information through the Alabama Secretary of State’s website or by contacting their local board of registrars.
